Peter Olds was born in Christchurch and raised in Auckland. As a young man he spent time at Jerusalem on the Whanganui River with James K Baxter, whose Letter to Peter Olds was published in 1972. In 1978 Peter was Robert Burns Fellow at the University of Otago. His first collection of poetry, Lady Moss Revived was followed by V-8 Poems, The Snow&the Glass Window, Freeway, Doctors Rock, Beethoven's Guitar, and After Looking for Broadway: Twice his work has been choosen for Best New Zealand Poems. In 2001 the Earl of Seacliff Art Workshop realesed Peter Olds'Music Therapy, in Hazard Press published It was a Tuesday Morning, selected poems 1972 - 2001, and in 2006 the Earl of Seacliff gave us The Mad Elephant. In 2005 Peter Olds was one of two recipients of the inaugural Janet Frame Literary Awards. He lives in Dunedin.
